If you're at this page we've probably talked a bit over email or text and now's the next step. There's much to see and learn, and it all starts with our first month of lessons together! As with any new activity, there's some rules and guidelines to make things run smoothly. So please look this list over before we schedule our onboarding phone call
Guitar is so much fun and we can really get somewhere together within just months of learning. But there's a few guidelines to understand so we can go forward and set our first appointment. Please read over the below brief points, and if this is right for you, let's setup your first lesson! All open slots for new students are first-come, first-served until one is reserved for you.
We meet weekly at the studio off Eagle Rd and Ustick. You are not required to attend every lesson but it's recommended you do, or at least attend most sessions. Lessons are pre-billed for one month and we meet at your reserved time slot each week. If you can't make it a given week, just let me know. Whether you attend all 4 each month, or less than this, the monthly rate stays the same. See below about making up missed lessons. (There is also a small one-time $5 fee for the studio registration.
I offer makeup lessons throughout the year for missed lessons. There is a limit on how many can be makeup due to scheduling and availability of time. We will discuss this on our onboarding call or you can ask questions / email me. There is a 24 hr notice required (except for illness) to be eligible for a makeup. Missed lessons/makeup lessons do not affect your normal monthly billing.
A parent is required in the lesson at all times due to the one-on-one nature of meetings and sessions. There are no exceptions. This is the same guideline at most public schools where your child's teacher is not alone in a closed room with one student. We adhere to the minimum "two-adult present" rule when teaching kids. This is simply a best practice. If your teen is of driving age or near 18 ... I may attempt to make arrangements to accommodate or I'll try to refer you.
Nobody likes being locked into long contracts. Your lessons operate on a simple month-to-month agreement with no longterm commitments. Decide that lessons are no longer a fit for you? No problem! Just provide a 30-day notice, then pay for your final month. It's that easy! Feel free to reach out in the future if lessons work for your lifestyle.
There is no question how beautiful long nails are, especially with all the modern designs and nail art. Unfortunately this doesn't go well with guitar. You will need to keep your nails short on your fret-hand, or within 2-3 millimeters of a normal short n, for most people this is their LEFT hand. This is not really negotiable as it interferes with fretting notes. If you are in love with your long nails and cant see cutting them, I can try to recommend another instrument if you choose to do that.
If it's all systems go then please reach out and we can set a time to talk and get you scheduled! Text me, email, or use the contact button below.
If you're a good fit for the Lesson Guidelines above, let's schedule our onboarding call! Below is a brief list of things to do after you sign up and we've already had our first lesson. If you can practice at home three or more times per week, then you can do this! Your instructor will organize a practice plan for you if you wish.
Your practice setup at home should be quiet and free from household distractions, and include a music stand. 30 minutes or longer is a good guideline for practicing at home and your instructor will show you exactly what to work on each week. Try to avoid practicing on the floor, or sitting on beds or sofas. A firm comfortable chair with no arms is the best seat in the house for playing guitar!
You'll have plenty of opportunity to ask questions before we schedule, and during all lessons. Think of how much better you'll be next year if you start this week!

At Meridian Guitar Lessons, I'll go at your pace so we dont have to match the speed of a group class. This normally means learning faster with more material, helping you reach your musical goals fastest.
